northeast of lake erie will continue to move northeast today. high pressure over the southern plains will gradually build into the ohio valley tonight through wednesday then shift off the new england coast thursday. && near term /until 6 pm this evening/... falling temps will be the biggest weather issue today as arctic air spreads over the area. wind chills will be dropping well below zero from west to east as temps fall toward zero and winds of 20 to 30 mph occur. the wind chill warning still looks in order for the next few days. the snow will be a tougher issue to deal with due to changeable conditions. the nam and gfs differ on how much mid level moisture will be over the northern part of the cwa this afternoon. mean low level west flow sets up today into tonight so a winter storm warning in the snowbelt may work out as there should be a decent lake effect shsn along with blowing snow and wind chill readings falling to 20 below or lower later today into tonight. outside of the snowbelt...most of the accumulating snow is over so will be concentrating on the wind chill warning. there will be some blowing snow but with little or no accumulating snow falling...will just mention the blsn in with the wind chill warning. however...in the nw where more snow occurred yesterday and early last night will keep a winter wx advisory for blsn going there into this evening. && short term /6 pm this evening through wednesday night/... wind chill warnings that run thru 9 am wed morning will be left as is for now. may be able to downgrade the warning to an advisory sometime tue night as low level warm advection begins and the core of the arctic air is pushed ne of the area while the winds also diminish. likewise...as winds back more to the sw may eventually be able to end the winter storm warning for part of the snowbelt as the lake effect snow bands shift more ne into erie co pa or wrn ny. just as the lake effect should be tapering off wed as conditions become less favorable...another upper trough dives se into the area along with a weak surface cold front. an overrunning situation develops and a band of deeper moisture sets up over the area. will stay with plan to increase pops wed into wed night for widespread light snow to develop. && long term /thursday through sunday/... the weather portion of the forecast is not real clear but the temperature trend will be moderating temperatures to above normal. for thursday will keep the likely pops in the warm advection and with a weak upper trof moving through...confidence is low. chance pops thursday night...still keeping it mainly snow...this will have to be watched. on friday dry...in between systems. for friday night and saturday more precipitation is expected with a front moving through the area. models not in agreement in the precipitation type. with the southwest flow went with a mix. kept sunday mainly dry with high pressure building over the area. && aviation /12z monday through friday/... the low and cold front that moved through the region during the night was moving quickly away from the region. a little vort lobe was moving through ne ohio this morning causing some snow. elsewhere some light snow or flurries and plenty of blowing and drifting snow was occurring. strong winds with gusts between 30 and 35 knots will continue through tonight. the best chance for lake effect snow this afternoon and tonight will be east of cleveland. some question was the ceilings will do at inland locations later today. at this time will try to improve them to vfr for this afternoon and tonight...since the flow is westerly. outlook...occasional non vfr in lake effect snow across ne ohio and nw pa tuesday and tuesday. more non vfr possible across the entire forecast area wednesday through thursday night. && marine... gale force winds will be developing quickly this morning in the strong cold advection. the winds should be the strongest this afternoon and evening. at this time sustained winds of 40 knots seem strong enough with much higher gusts. gale force winds will continue through tuesday evening. with the west to southwest winds low water will occur even with the ice on the west end. it may not get real low because of the ice. the heavy freezing spray warning continues in the ice free areas. southwest winds will return on wednesday and continue into saturday. winds will become west saturday night after a cold frontal passage. a small craft advisory may be needed on the east end through sunday morning until the winds become southwest as high pressure moves into the ohio valley. && cle watches/warnings/advisories... oh...winter storm warning until 9 am est wednesday for ohz011>014- 089. wind chill warning from noon today to 9 am est
