valley will move north into the ohio valley through tonight. a weak cold front will drop southeast into lake erie wednesday night and dissipate as the high spreads over ohio and pennsylvania then shifts off the new england coast by friday. another cold front will move east across the region late saturday. && near term /until 6 pm tuesday evening/... temps still only look to rise just a little above zero today. with winds still running around 20 mph...wind chills should remain in a -25 to -35 range all day so wc warning will remain. from late morning on...mean llvl winds back a little more to the sw and llvl moisture gets pushed more to the ne. would think threat for any significant lake effect would thus be over but short term and near term hi res models all continue produce qpf over erie and ashtabula co's much the same as they have been doing since early mon morning. will the models finally be right today...don't know for sure so will keep the winter storm warning up for erie and ashtabula lakeshore but change the headline to just wind chill warning for lake...inland ashtabula and crawford co pa. there will be some blsn but situation not as bad as yesterday so headlines for this will be ended. && short term /6 pm tuesday evening through thursday night/... llvl winds continue to back more sw tonight increasing warm advection. temps will probably even rise a little during the course of the night. if temps rise and winds settle down as expected then the wind chill warning can be backed down to just an advisory. some mid level moisture shown spreading over the area tonight and with the warm advective lift could see some light snow or flurries develop. if the snow occurs...it will be so light that it may not measure in most areas so pops will be kept low. warm advection continues wed. moisture at all levels continues to increase ahead of a weak cold front that will drop to lake erie and dissipate wed night. increased threat for light snow still looks reasonable for wed into wed night and probably will hang around for thu into thu night so chance pops will stay in forecast. the warm advection will continue to moderate the temps into thu as highs by thu could rocket all the way to near the freezing point...especially in the south. && long term /friday through monday/... the precipitation portion of the forecast continues to be tough. on friday will keep the forecast dry ahead of cold front that will move across the area saturday. kept the pops on the high side for friday night into saturday. some question to the precipitation type...at this time kept it a mix. it could be mainly rain. some residual precipitation saturday night in the east. the models are different for the sunday through monday forecast. the gfs has a front east of the area while the ecmwf has the front west. kept close to the previous forecast until the trend is clear. the temperatures will definitely be a little above normal. && aviation /06z tuesday through saturday/... bitter cold and gusty winds along with blowing and drifting snow. snow bands over lake erie are trying to shift back south slowly at this time and we should see some snow develop or occur at cleveland and erie. best chance will be erie overnight. some lower clouds continue to move across the akron and canton area into youngstown producing some very light snow or flurries. other than that...most areas should remain vfr across the area. dont expect winds to diminish until late tomorrow evening so this will continue to cause some blowing and drifting of snow in the north and west. outlook...occasional non vfr in lake effect snow across ne ohio and nw pa late tuesday night. more non vfr possible across the entire forecast area wednesday through thursday night. && marine... continuing the gale warning through this evening. the winds will gradually decrease as warm advection will start. also continuing the low water advisory on the west end through this evening. not sure if it will need to be extended...it will be close...so no changes at this time. after this event a southwest flow will occur on the lake through saturday with a ridge over the ohio valley and a low over canada. it is possible that a small craft advisory could be needed by saturday as the southwest flow increases ahead of a cold front that will move across lake erie late saturday. a small craft advisory may also be needed after the frontal passage for a short time...then a southwest flow returns. && cle watches/warnings/advisories... oh...wind chill warning until 9 am est wednesday for
