move along a nearly stationary front sitting across the area tonight. high pressure will move into the ohio valley later sunday through monday while a trough across the northern great lakes pulls across the eastern lakes. a low pressure system wednesday night will bring a much colder airmass back to the region. && near term /until 6 am sunday morning/... a minor disturbance will move along the cold front that has become nearly stationary across northern ohio tonight. it appears likely that this will produce a band of light precipitation across the area tonight. snowfall amounts questionable. moisture is somewhat limited but we do see a period of frontgen forcing and the resultant lift in a then saturated good snow growth zone. qpf being painted is upwards of 0.3 to 0.4 inches liquid generally in a swath from findlay to youngstown. so with more mesoscale features controlling this system tonight...could see a narrow band of 3 inches or so...but hard to pin down exactly. temperatures starting out warm...but will fall as initial precip evaporates. so there may be a few raindrops to start...but overall expecting most of the qpf to be snow as colder air filters in aloft too. the threat for ice jam flooding continues. see the latest flood warnings. && short term /6 am sunday morning through tuesday night/... surface ridge builds in behind the overnight system on sunday and will only keep a lingering chance of light snow across the east for the first part of the morning sunday. through the course of the week we will progressively get colder with each passing disturbance. may have some light lake effect develop for the far east snowbelt sunday night/monday morning. questions on how far into the area the better moisture associated with the troughing over the great lakes can get. went a touch colder than guidance highs for sunday. by sunday night the area will see teens again for low temps. the next weak system/shortwave moves through the mean flow monday night into tuesday. another light snowfall for the majority of the area type system. lingering snow showers possible tuesday as the upper trough axis crosses. by wednesday morning h8 temps will have returned to around -20c with a temporary high building in. can expect single digits for wednesday morning. && long term /wednesday through saturday/... it will definitely be colder than average in the extended. the uncertainty will be the timing of systems across the region. it appears that there will be some lake effect snow with each piece of jet energy that passes. other than a few minor tweaks to the grids the previous forecast looked good. && aviation /18z saturday through thursday/... gusty southwest to west winds will slowly decrease into the evening. as a trough moves into the region winds will shift to the northwest. as this occurs there will be a swath of snow that develops near or shortly after midnight. as the trough sags to the south and east it may produce 1 to locally 3 inches of snowfall. the heaviest will likely occur near or south of a line from kfdy to kgkj. this scenario should allow for vfr conditions into the evening and most likely until the snow begins. this is when mvfr and localized ifr will begin. increasing influence of high pressure will bring ceilings up slightly in the wake of the trough but they will likely remain mvfr...especially downwind of lake erie. outlook...non-vfr possible nrn sites on sunday...expanding sunday night. non vfr returning monday night into wednesday. && marine... have extended the gale warning across the open waters of the east end of lake erie until 00z. as the weak frontal boundary moves east of the lake winds should decrease. winds will again increase at some point on monday as an arctic cold crosses the region. we may need to once again issue a gale warning. && cle watches/warnings/advisories... oh...none. pa...none. marine...gale warning until 7 pm est this evening for lez061-169. hr.
