ohio valley/lower great lakes today and move off the southeast coast tonight. this will allow a warm front to lift ne across the area friday. && near term /until 6 pm this evening/... lowered pops from categorical to likey as the low level winds are beginning to back to the west. as that occurs bands should begin to shear apart. original discussion... snow showers off of lake huron continue across the central lakeshore counties into northeast ohio. drier air entraining in as ridge builds in but winds dont start to shear until around 12z. expect snow showers to continue then. could see a widespread inch or two with 1-3 in the higher elevations possible before ridge finally cuts lake effect snow off. eastern counties will get close to wind chill advisory criteria...but expect conditions to remain just below the criteria as winds will continue to diminish through the morning hours. && short term /6 pm this evening through sunday night/... progressive pattern in short term. high pressure that moves across ohio valley today will slide off the se coast tonight. this will allow a warm front to lift across the area friday. temperatures could break 50 in the southern counties. warm up will be short lived as another cold front moves across the area friday night. expect precip with the front to start as rain and then change to all snow overnight. much colder air settles over the area sunday. && long term /monday through wednesday/... lot's of differences remain in the long term models so confidence remains low this morning. will continue with a dry forecast for monday but the latest ecmwf is bringing precip close to southern end of the area. the high to the north of lake erie should be just strong enough to keep the precip at bay. better chances for precip will come tuesday and wednesday. again the 00z models are very different so timing is tough to pin down. will continue with chance pops for now. monday will be a very cold day with highs again struggling to get out of the 20s. tuesday and wednesday will be a tad better...but still just below normal. && aviation /12z thursday through monday/... just some patches of lake effect clouds still across the area. some of this cloudiness is mvfr. periods of bkn cigs are likely the next few hours over the eastern half of the area. clouds could return to keri and kyng as the flow continues to become more westerly. no more than flurries are expected today. the afternoon and evening hours will be mainly clear with some high clouds increasing tonight as a warm front lifts across the region. nw flow will become w this morning and then s to sw this evening. speeds most of the time will be under 12 knots. outlook...non vfr possible friday night into sunday...especially in the snowbelt. && marine... winds have diminished on the lake and do not foresee any headlines during the period. a ridge will slide east across the lake later today causing the flow to become sw. a cold front is still on track to cross the lake on friday night which will cause the flow to return to the west. high pressure will then build over the lake from the northwest over the weekend with the flow eventually becoming northerly. another system will begin to approach from the sw on monday which will cause the flow to return to the south. && cle watches/warnings/advisories... oh...none. pa...none.
