places to live in toledo http://www.toledotalk.com/cgi-bin/comments.pl/4/2773 my july 2006 comment hr. "1.) Downtown 2.) West Toledo 3.) South Toledo 4.) Rossford 5.) Perrysburg 6.) Northwood/Oregon 7.) Holland, Maumee, & Sylvania 8.) SE Michigan" Add Walbridge to your list. It's in Wood County, which is a big plus right there. It's a quiet little town, kind of hidden, but it's close to Toledo and close to several major roadways. Walbridge is only a couple miles from I-280. You can go north to Oregon to jump on state Rt 2 if you need to go east on that road for some reason. Go west on Rt 2 to get to East Toledo and Rossford. I-280 north will take to you to downtown Toledo. And when the new bridge is constructed, you could take I-280 north to I-75 north if you needed to go to Detroit. I-280 south from Walbridge will take to you to state route 795 and route 20. And one big reason to live in Walbridge is because the town has one of the coolest coffee shops around called Grounded. Perrysburg has always been my favorite community around here. I love their downtown area. I would only live in P-burg if I could be as close as possible to their downtown, so I could walk to Kazmaier's Grocery and walk to the downtown restaurants, the library, the hardware store, the My Daily Grind coffee shop, my barbershop of nearly 15 years, etc. All that and more is in the historic Perrysburg downtown area. No matter where you live, pick some place where you can walk to these types of places. Where we live now in West Toledo, we have to drive to the store to get something simple like a 2 liter bottle of pop. After getting married five years ago, I moved into my wife's house here in West Toledo, but I hate the location. Nothing to walk to. Our backyard is nice with all of our plantings, especially the Oak Openings natives, but the location sucks. So our plan is to move where we can walk to some basic stores. I lived in downtown Rossford for nine years, and when I needed a few grocery items, or I wanted to get something to eat, I walked. The rec center I worked out in, the church I attended, the library, the ice cream shop, Moe's Tavern, pizza places, all right in the downtown area of Rossford where I lived. The Rossford hardware store was just down the street from me, although it no longer exists. The little convenience mart that was a couple blocks from me also is now closed. So downtown Rossford probably lacks the features of downtown Perrysburg, although Moe's Tavern is a good enough reason to live in Rossford. I also like Rossford's park down by their marina. It's a nice walk out Eagle Point Rd and in the Colony area. And, obviously, Rossford has quick access to major roadways too, and it's only five minutes from downtown Toledo. Back to P-burg for a second. During the warmer months, downtown Perrysburg holds a farmers market every Thursday afternoon and evening. Just over the hill from downtown P-burg are some good spots for walleye fishing during the spring run. The 577 Foundation and the WW Knight Nature Preserve are nice places to visit. Both are located along river road just downstream of Perrysburg. And along route 795 just east of Perrysburg is another park that's a mile or so from downtown. posted by jr at 09:03 A.M.
