Mid to late May 2015 bug

I first noticed this bug about a week ago. I don't know how long it has been around. It's quite numerous today, flying about. I've been bitten a few times.

I thought that the bug was associated with either our blooming spiraea bushes or the oak tree flower that has been raining down this week.

Here's a photo of the bug that I snapped this afternoon. The 'V' or triangle pattern on the upper back should help ID it.
