I'm with you on the number of cluttered, bloated, and wretched media websites that are horrible user experiences.

For a homepage, I prefer single column streams of content or "rivers." I only need an excerpt of each post.

Something like this Toledo Talk page, which is accessing and displaying info from the Blade's local news RSS feed.
