It's easy to stomp on the gas on I-475 west of the downtown split because that section of road is wide and smooth, and both northbound and southbound I-75 drivers go through annoying construction areas. And because that section of road near the ProMedica overpass has a slight upgrade and a curve, it's easy for a law officer to remain hidden until it's too late. 

The speed limit on west bound I-475 between the downtown split and the Talmadge Road exit is 60 mph, I think.
