2014 NFL Draft - First Round Results

As of Thu morning, May 8 before any possible wheeling and dealing, the Browns have "three of the first 35 selections and five of the first 85."

Cleveland's #26 pick in the first round came from the Indianapolis Colts when the Browns traded RB Trent Richardson to the Colt's for Indy's 1st round draft pick in 2014. On draft day, the Browns made a deal with Philly, so that the Browns could move up from 26 to 22.

This final mock also extends to the Browns’ pick in the second round, No. 35 overall. I picked a cornerback there solely based on need. It would be voided if one is selected earlier after a trade.

1. Houston: DE Jadeveon Clowney, South Carolina

Highest pick ever for a pass rusher off a three-sack season.

2. St. Louis: OT Jake Matthews, Texas A&M

Trade down is still possible.

3. Jacksonville: WR Sammy Watkins, Clemson

After much debate, they turn to the surest offensive playmaker.

4. Cleveland: LB Khalil Mack, Buffalo

He is Mike Pettine’s personification of playing ‘like a Brown.’

5. Oakland: OT Greg Robinson, Auburn

It’s possible this player could draw trade action.

6. Atlanta: OT Taylor Lewan, Michigan

If no trade with Browns, Falcons would settle for third-best OT.

My boring notes

I wish the Browns would draft Manziel. It would be good theatre this summer. And at least Manziel played well against good competition. He didn't pad his stats only against weak teams like Brady Quinn.

Grossi's hilarious comment about DE Jadeveon Clowney, South Carolina who may go first in the draft: "Highest pick ever for a pass rusher off a three-sack season."

In my opinion, quarterback and wide receiver are the top two positions that receive special treatment from NFL rules. It's a scoring league. In the first round, especially for the first 10 picks, I would focus on players who receive special treatment from the NFL rules.

It seems St. Louis will stay with Sam Bradford for QB. The Browns could use another top-flight receiver. It's suppose to be wide receiver-laden draft, which means teams drafting near the bottom of the first round, like Cleveland's second pick, will have a chance to draft a quality receiver.

Will the Bengals, Steelers, and Ravens draft receivers in the first round?
