I finally entered the smart phone era on Jun 18, 2014
Over the past year, it was fascinating to use the old dumb/feature flip phone with the Opera Mini Browser for using and testing my web apps to ensure some progressive enhancement and general usefulness on lower-scaled phones. I wish that I could keep a feature phone around for testing. Maybe an inexpensive Trac-phone-like device could work for me.
The Opera Mini browser worked surprisingly well on the flip phone. That browser handles some or many aspects of jQuery and enough CSS to make the sites look good.
But this evening, CP took me to the Verizon store on Central Ave near McCord in Sylvania. We had great service. Nick took care of us well.
The 32-gig 5c was free for me. I added the Lifeproof nuud waterproof protected cover. So my total cost was around $140 for the cover and activation fee.
When we got home, CP and I tested the waterproof cover without the phone. We used a paper towel or cardboard within the case. Then we dunked the whole thing in a bowl of water. No bubbles. Dry inside. Nice for me, especially for nature note-taking outdoors.
CP helped me with some other phone-related issues, and then I took over. So far so good.
Now I need to review my list of apps to try.
Better add the Beersmith app to that list. It's a fairly sophisticated jQuery mobile app.
My first photo from my new phone was of CP and DD.
My first post to one of my web sites with the phone was to MakeToledo.com, but I'll eventually wipe out that database, since I'm still testing and developing the Grebe code that will power that site. But here's the text of that post:
this is a test post with my new iphoneadding a line.
this eve, cp took me to the verizon store on central.
