Dallas Cowboys at Detroit Lions - 27Oct2013
Cowboys at Lions. 1:00 p.m. game. Watching game on little portable digital TV.
First Quarter
Detroit, 4th and goal from Dal 2, Stafford fires a bullet to C. Johnson on a little slant for TD. 7-0 Det late first qtr.
Second Quarter
7-3 Det with 4:56 left in 2nd.
Stafford throws int late in 2nd qtr. Dal offense converts for TD with a great catch by WR Bryant with only 0:46 left in 2nd.
Det's C. Johnson and Dal's D. Bryant make big pass-catching plays that Gordon does not make.
Det at own 49. Med-long Stafford pass goes through the hands of number 84 for Det. What the hell?
Now Stafford sacked for huge loss. Detroit offense can only muster 7 points in first half. At home. Pretty weak. Det should have won last week at home vs Cincy.
Calvin Johnson has over 150 yards receiving for Detroit in the first half.
Stafford's int a short while ago was picked off by Dal LB at approx the Dallas 20 yard line, and the LB returned the int to the Det 5 yard line. So Det appeared to be headed toward at least a FG op at the end of the first half.
Instead of the halftime score being 10-3 Det, it's 10-7 Dal, due to Stafford's bad pass.
I would say Det lost last week because Stafford misfired on 3 TD pass plays on 2 straight poss. The one drive resulted in FG, and other drive resulted in a blocked FG with a good Cin return, which gave the Cin offense a short field for a TD drive. So instead of 14 points, Det only scored 3 points. Det should have at least had 4 more points. Det lost on a 54 yard field goal on the last play of the game when the score was tied. Stafford's inaccuracy on those TD pass attempts to open receivers cost the Lions.
Third Quarter
5:00 left in the 3rd. Still 10-7 Dallas leads.
Calvin Johnson fumbles at Dallas 30 after 20 yard pass catch and run. Dallas returns fumble to around midfield. Another Det turnover in Dallas territory.
Dal offense converted turnover into a TD.
End 3rd qtr, Dal 13 and Det 7.
Fourth Quarter
Det scored FG. 13-10.
Dal scores on a 50 yard pass play. Short pass of only a few yards but receiver ran it nearly 50 yards for TD.
20-10 Dal. Still plenty of time left.
Det will lose another home game to a possible playoff team. The Lions are pretenders at this point.
Det scored TD. 7:38 left. Plenty of time.
27-17. 4:45 left. Det inside Dal 10.
C. Johnson has 290 receiving yards today.
27-24 Dallas leads with 2:40 left.
Dallas driving and killing clock.
Dal 3rd and 14 at Det 35. Run gains about 10 or so, but Dal called for holding. Now what?
It will be 4th and 5 if Det declines, but Dal will be in field goal position. But Det is out of timeouts.
Yep. Penalty is declined. 44 yard FG is good.
30-24 with 1:02 left. Losing close is still losing. Hopefully, Detroit knows that. Who cares if they lost on the last play last week, and they may fall short this week?
Kickoff, touchback.
Both TVs now on the Dal-Det game. The cable is slow. The over the air digital signal is 8 to 10 seconds ahead of Buckeye Cable.
I need to watch games with an antenna if I listen to them
Wow. Det at own 38. Big time pass by Stafford caught and out of bounds at Dallas 24. Great pass by Stafford.
Pass caught and down at the half yard line!! Rats. Clock running. Lions scurrying.
Det snaps. Stafford under center. He dives over the top for the TD!!! Wow!!
The Gungslinger.
Stafford can misfire on open guys. He can throw bad interceptions. But he keeps firing. He has no fear. You never know what might happen. But it ain't boring with Stafford and the Lions offense.
Score is 30-30 with :12 left.
I guess refs are reviewing play. For some reason, Bryant is going nuts with anger on the Dallas sideline.
It's a touchdown.!!!!
PAT needed. Good!!!
31-30 with :12 left. I think everyone thought Stafford would spike the ball when the Lions got to the half yard line.
The pass play that got the Lions to the half yard line was caught by Johnson. It was another great pass by Stafford.
Stafford threw two amazing passes on this 80 yard TD drive.
When stafford is rifling passes and Johnson is catching, the Lions are in it.
Whoa. Why not kickoff to the end zone for a likely touchback?? Nearly every kickoff is a touchback anymore.
Lions kick short. Up man returns it to Dallas 33.
Dallas with a lateral play. No dice.
Game over. Lions head coach Schwartz is fired up. Talk about pulling one out of the ass. Wow.
This is what happens with Stafford. He can misfire badly on open receivers and he can complete amazing passes to receivers who are tightly covered. He just keeps firing. He has tons of confidence.
The Lions are fortunate this game. Maybe it evens out. Won a close one today. Lost a close one last week.
31-30 Detroit wins.
ESPN story Matthew Stafford's TD run caps rally as Calvin Johnson, Lions win
Detroit record: 5-3.
