ohio...and ashtabula...southern lake...geauga and cuyahoga counties
in northeast ohio...and sandusky...ottawa...lucas...wood...seneca and
hancock counties in northwest ohio...and erie and crawford counties
in northwest pennsylvania until 315 pm est sunday...

at 218 am est...national weather service doppler radar indicated an
area of showers moving across northern ohio and northwest
pennsylvania. rainfall rates have decreased significantly. however
the light rain that continues will be enough to keep water from
receding from low lying areas. all of the rain will slowly end from
west to east through sunrise.

runoff from the excessive rainfall will cause flooding to occur.
some locations that will experience flooding include...ashtabula...
bowling green...chardon...cleveland...clyde...custar...elmore...
elyria...erie ...findlay...fitchville...fostoria...fremont...
jefferson...meadville...norwalk...port clinton...sandusky...
strongsville...sylvania...tiffin...toledo...waterville...albion...
amherst...andover...arcadia...arlington...bellevue and bloomville.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. if driving...slow down! be alert for low
spots...dips...and underpasses which may be flooded. people in low
lying areas along creeks and streams should move to higher ground to
escape rising water levels.

do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. the water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. turn around...don`t drown!

national weather service cleveland oh
956 pm est sat dec 21 2013

...significant flooding a concern through sunday...

.heavy rainfall will continue to provide the ingredients for
significant flood potential. the rain will be heavy at times
overnight as low pressure tracks across the region. flooding is
possible over a large area. some area rivers may experience
moderate to major flooding. the heavier rain will exit by early
sunday but the flood threat will remain as runoff will still be
contributing to rises on area streams and rivers during the day.

  • through sunday afternoon
  • excessive rainfall will produce a flood threat through sunday.
additional rainfall amounts around an inch and a half can be
expected overnight. some localized areas could see higher
amounts...especially if thunderstorms develop. the ground is
already saturated from the recent rain and snow melt so rapid
run off and rises of water in rivers and streams can be expected.
  • flooding along streams and low lying areas may cause the closure
of some roads and cause inundation of basements. area rivers
will likely exceed flood stage...with some reaching moderate to
    major flood levels.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

a flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. you should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop. as always....remember...if you encounter flooded
roads...turn around dont drown. stay tuned to weather radio or
your favorite weather source for further details or updates
