Duck hunting at Magee Marsh is based upon a lottery system, conducted before the season.

Starting about mid-October, the only day that Magee Marsh beyond the Sportmen's Center is open to the public is Sunday. It's also open late Saturday afternoon. Nearby Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge remains open.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife, has announced that access beyond the Sportsmen’s Migratory Bird Center at the Magee Marsh Wildlife Area to the beach area, including the boardwalk and beach trails, will be closed at various points during the fall in order to provide a quality hunting experience for Ohio’s sportsmen and women.

The road closure is in effect starting Sept. 29 through Oct. 6, from Oct. 14 through Nov. 1 and from Nov. 10 through Dec. 7. Additionally, the road and beach area will be closed during the controlled youth waterfowl and deer hunts scheduled for Oct. 4 and 5 and Nov. 22 and 23.

The remaining weekends during this time period, hunters, anglers and wildlife viewers will be permitted access to the beach area and wildlife trails starting Saturday afternoons after the conclusion of the hunts until sunset, and sunrise to sunset on Sundays.

You might want to contact or join a local hunting group, such as the local chapter of Pheasants Forever, to learn about hunting and to find a partner to help through the beginning stage.
