The Wire come to live - April 2015

Recently, I've been re-watching one of my all-time favorite TV shows, The Wire, and I can see some humor in what's occurring in Baltimore.

First the sadness: Store where Omar Little was killed burns to the ground

So much for our summer sightseeing trip to Baltimore.

The real-life Baltimore mayor would be Nerese in The Wire who was council president on the show, but she became mayor at the end.

Elijah Cummings is a real-life state rep whose district covers much of Baltimore. He may make a U.S. Senate bid. This would be Clay Davis.

Apparently in real-life Baltimore, officials designated an area of the city for rioters to destroy. That idea had to be inspired by Bunny Colvin's 'Hamsterdam' where free zones were created for the unfettered selling of drugs.

Then allegedly in real-life Baltimore, rival gangs decided to work together to attack police. That would be the co-op of gangs led by Avon Barksdale, Marlo Stanfield, and Proposition Joe.

The Greek has temporarily halted business with the co-op until things cool down.

Stringer Bell is worried about his drug-money-funded development investments getting destroyed by rioters.

No doubt Lester is using digital surveillance to monitor rioting chatter. Kima is receiving street intel from her CI named Bubbles.

Police sergeant Landsman is still viewing porn during work time, except that he's migrated from magazines to using the internet.

McNulty and Bunk are during decent police week in between their hours of carousing.

Defense attorney Levy is representing all the arrested rioters.

In the real-life photos from this week, I notice a lot of photographers in the photos. In some photos, the photographers outnumber everyone else.

The media loves the rioting because it allows them to add "conflict zone reporting" to their resumes.

But
