I'm wondering if Santiago has a grasp of reality.
The no-confidence vote occurred across Mon and Tue, May 18 and 19, 2015.
Before the vote, Santiago arrogantly and defiantly said :
"The vote is really inconsequential to me, because I understand how a vote like that takes place. It isn’t truly representative of all the members of this department."
Also from that Blade story ahead of the vote:
Chief Luis Santiago said the vote follows a disagreement with a small faction of the department.
And:
The Local 92 union represents about 490 privates, lieutenants, and captains in the department.
The vote tally :
- 319 against Santiago - 87%
- 46 for Santiago - 13%
- total votes cast: 365
- voter turnout: 74%
Small faction? Inconsequential? Not truly representative? In my opinion, those numbers are stunning.
Regardless, Santiago will have this stain on his career.
Mr. Romstadt called the vote “an historical event,” and said it was the first-ever vote of its kind in Toledo’s history.
After the vote, Santiago has, in my opinion, made bizarre statements that question his ability to lead.
Chief Santiago questioned the meaning of the vote because, he said, it remains unclear what members were told in advance and how the votes were processed.“It’s tough for me to come to a conclusion on that based on those two items,” he said.
74 percent voter turnout and 87 percent voted against Santiago. What's the question? It's pretty obvious what to conclude.
The excuse line from above:
... it remains unclear what members were told in advance ...
Is Santiago implying that 65 percent of Local 92 members are morons?
Jun 5, 2015 Blade story with more weird explanations from Santiago:
The chief said the union vote may not genuinely reflect firefighters’ confidence in his leadership.
?????????? cuckoo cuckoo
About 200 department members have less than five years of experience, which could limit their perspective in the vote, [Santiago] said.“I look at myself back when I had five years on the job. Would I have voted no confidence? I probably would have,” Chief Santiago said, explaining that many younger members of the department aren’t being provided all the information they need to make such a decision.
Limit their perspective? I infer that Santiago thinks that those firefighters are rubes.
In my opinion, Santiago is implying that a firefighter with under five years of job experience is unqualified to cast a union vote. But that same firefighter is qualified to try to save lives and property.
Santiago does not sound like a leader. And PH2 supporting Santiago???
Whatever. This should make for entertaining, whackadoo political theatre this fall in Toledo's mayoral election. We need ac's popcorn gif.
