Tweet by Ignazio Messina:

@OfficialCarty on @mikebell4tol announcement:

“Winners dont talk about their opponents they only focus on their own game plan."

Maybe I'm misreading that tweet, but it sounds like Carty is criticizing Bell over Bell discussing political opponents. Is that correct?

Did Czarty suggest that "winners" focus only on their own game plan?

If I'm correct on what Czarty is saying, then how does official Czarty explain what he released about seven days ago?

Jul 31, 2015 - Toledo Blade - Former Toledo mayor Finkbeiner ’very disappointed’ with Hicks-Hudson's handling of water testing

Former Toledo mayor Carty Finkbeiner's campaign-in-waiting issued a statement to The Blade and local media outlets today criticizing Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson's waffling ...

“I am very disappointed with Toledo Mayor Hicks-Hudson and Toledo utility officials,” said former three-term Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner.

“Waffling back and forth on testing protocol is not a leader’s approach to an issue that is as significant as the safety of Toledo drinking water. It leaves Toledoans confused and doubting the reports,” added Finkbeiner.

He released a statement to the media, attacking Mayor Hicks-Hudson. How is that not considered criticizing an opponent?

I guess that since Czarty has not officially announced his mayoral candidacy, even though he has been campaigning since May, then officially, Mayor Hicks-Hudson is not an opponent.

Anyway, this sounds familiar.

July 2005 Toledo Talk post about a Toledo Journal story that I assume was published that same summer. The TJ article was titled:

"Carty Finkbeiner was crude, rude and ‘stupid,’ Mayor Jack Ford says"

Carty responded to Ford's claims by saying:

"That simply is untrue, unfounded and tragic that Mr. Ford would sink to making that kind of comment."

"Whenever a politician talks more about his opponent than he does his own program, he states in bold, capital letters, ‘I have accomplished very little myself.’"

July 2005 Toledo Talk post about a Toledo Journal story with Carty talking about Mayor Ford. Carty said:

"When a man is paid $137,000 by the taxpayers to solve the major problems in Toledo, Ohio, for Mr. Ford to be wasting his time giving speeches and holding press conferences on the debates ... is a classic example for why his numbers are so low."

"It seems to me he should have been solving how we are going to be putting men and women back to work in Toledo, Ohio. This press conference, to me, speaks to why a lot of voters in Toledo have lost confidence in Jack Ford."

Apparently, it's okay for Czarty to discuss opponents.
