I guess that it depends upon the definition of "lopsided," but to me, that is some silly-ass, out-of-context, unprofessional writing, which probably invalidates anything else that Gerritt wrote in his column.

Voter turnout in Toledo was around 35 to 40 percent, which was a good showing.

But nearly 65 percent of those voters voted against PH2. She got crushed by the field of Bell, Carty, Collins, and Spang. The voters did not want an officially-endorsed Democrat candidate. That should be obvious even to lightweight thinkers, such as newspaper columnists.

PH2 won because she was endorsed by the local Democrat party, and she was on the ballot with six other candiates. If a real Democrat had entered the race, such as Wade Kapszukiewicz, then the outcome may have been much different, like the September 2013 Toledo mayoral primary.

The Lucas County Democrat party is a well-oiled machine. It's the only political party that exists in the county. Any other groups that you might hear about are more like hobbies than political parties.

A bag of fertilizer would have been the top vote-getter in Toledo's mayoral election earlier this month if it was the officially-endorsed Democrat candidate.
