April 2013 - Toledo Ranked 7th Fattest City in America

Consider it evolution. A little natural insulation helps Toledoans survive the winter, which ends about July.

In April and May and sometimes in early June, we occasionally get hit by the bone-chilling, Lake Erie-influenced micro climate while the rest of the state basks in pleasant weather.

This week's strong E-NE winds that roared off of cold Lake Erie kept T-town a lot chillier than most of the state.

The Toledo Rockets play their "spring" football game tonight. The weather is colder for this game than for most of the regular season games that they play in November.

People have to "bulk" up to handle our version of spring weather. This is no place for wimps.

July 2009 - Ohio is fat and oppressed

Ohio has the 10th highest rate of adult obesity in the nation, at 28.6 percent and the 15th highest of overweight youths (ages 10-17) at 33.3 percent ...

Even an older version of TT was impacted.

January 2004 - America's fattest cities - Toledo did not make this list's Top 25.

February 2004 - Cars blamed for obesity - op-ed from oregonlive.com:

This just may be the moment when we acknowledge the culprit in the battle of the bulge has more than a giant maw. It has four wheels. The Detroit Moment must delight the public health gurus who agree the car is a major ingredient in the incredible growing American, on an enemies list right beside Big Macs. We could slap warning labels on cars saying: This Vehicle Will Make You Fat.
