You're fortunate. I can't make that claim, living in West Toledo for 14+ plus years. I refuse to park on our street.

But it has been only minor issues, such as the catalytic converter being removed from my stepdaughter's clunker and a smash-and-grab through the driver's window our neighbor's car who lived directly across from us. Around the corner from us, a homeowner's pickup truck was stolen recently.

It's just stuff, so I'm not too bothered.

Anyone taking part in the Toledo Mud Hens’ opening day festivities today might find a report card on their windshield after leaving the game.

A Toledo police community service program that grades vehicles to make sure they’re not susceptible to break-ins or theft has been expanded to downtown area streets and parking lots.

Vehicles are subject to pass or fail grades depending on whether the officers find unlocked doors, valuables in plain view, keys left inside, or open windows, among other things that could make them targets for thieves.

The vehicle report card program was launched last December in parking lots near the Franklin Park Mall in West Toledo.

Police said expanding the program to the downtown area was natural progression because of people driving downtown to attend Walleye games and concerts at Huntington Center, the upcoming Mud Hens games at Fifth Third Field, and numerous other events.

Officer Cliff Warstler said he can visually inspect cars and hand out up to 100 report cards in an hour.

Recently, a home around the corner from ours had a pickup truck stolen from their driveway or from the street. I don't what the neighbors did wrong except existing. But I'm guessing that they were failures while the thugs were successful.
