The ability to post content, including status updates, blog posts, bookmarks, photos, geographic “check-ins” and events that other people with IndieWeb-compatible sites may comment on, reply to, “like” or RSVP as appropriate.

Due to its framework origins, Idno allows developers to easily build new post types. Indeed, support for events and RSVPs – at the time unsupported by any other IndieWeb-compatible software – were built in a single evening.

Mmm, maybe I need post types for nature and weather observations. Generally, these are microblog posts (notes in Indie Web jargon), but I can see creating a lengthy blog post (article in Indie Web jargon) of a day's field observations by aggregating and expounding upon all the microblog posts (notes) taken throughout the period. But then again, can't hashtags help here? Or are both used differently?

idno supports the modern web

We strongly believe in supporting modern cross-platform web technologies - and use them at the heart of idno's functionality. As a result, idno currently supports:

  • HTML5, CSS 3
  • Microformats 2
  • ActivityStreams and RSS
  • IndieWeb Comments

Additionally, idno contains a full internal and external API. We believe that extending idno with plugins and themes should be as easy as possible, and documentation will be made available with the initial release.

Defs:

Alternative perspective: instead of explicit post kinds, infer the post kind (and thus presentation/UI) by what aspects/properties a post has. E.g.:
  • a post with just plain text content -> note
  • with an explicit post name (title) -> article
  • with an embedded image (via h-media?) -> photo
  • with one or more rel-in-reply-to links -> reply
  • with a p-location venue -> checkin
  • an h-event event -> event (how is a post an event vs a post discussing an event?)
