Beers that I like

Jotting down beers that DD and I enjoy trying. This list may give us ideas for future beer brewing projects at home.

  • Left Hand Brewing Co. Milk Stout Nitro
  • North Peak Brewing Company Vicious American Wheat IPA
  • Rockmill Brewery Witbier
  • Founders Curmudgeon Old Ale
  • Hoegaarden Wit Blanche - Belgian Wheat
    • naturally cloudy, unfiltered, wheat, malted barley, orange peel, and coriander.
  • Maumee Bay Brewing Company 'Toledo Eclipse Breakfast Stout'
  • Great Lakes Brewing 'Chillwave Double IPA'
  • Samuel Adams 'Imperial White'
  • Bell's 'Expedition Stout'
  • Bell's 'Oberon'
  • New Belgium Trippel
  • 'Belgium Dubbel' by the Maumee Bay Brewing Company
    • we drank this great beer at Mutz, located in the Oliver House on Tue, May 13, 2014. Clint, the head brewer for MBBC, brewed several small batches of beer, made available this week at Mutz in honor of American Craft Beer Week. Each day, a new beer will be made available at Mutz. May 12, it was the Belgium Dubbel, still available on May 13. On May 13, the oatmeal stout was available. I would say MBBC's Belgium Dubbel was one of my favorite beers thus far for 2014. We may have to attempt brewing something similar.
  • Ommegang 'Abbey Ale' - we liked this Belgian-style dubbel ale a lot. 8.2% ABV
  • three Authentic Trappist Product beers that DD and I enjoyed immensely on Mon, May 26, 2014:
    • 1A - Trappists Rochefort 10 Belgian Ale - quad - Belgium monastery - 11.3% ABV
    • 1B - La Trappe Trappist Ale - quad - Netherlands monastery - 10% ABV
    • 1C - Chimay Ale - blue label - strong dark ale - Belgium monastery - 9% ABV
  • Trippel / Tripple / Tripel
    • Maredsous Abbaye - 10% ABV
    • Jack of Spades Schuppen Boer 8.5% - good, but I liked the Maredsous better.
  • More Authentic Trappist Products, early June, 2014:
    • Westmalle - Trappist Ale - Dubbel - 7% ABV - very good, smooth
    • Orval - Trappist Ale - 6.9% ABV - brewed on Jul 3, 2013 - interesting taste, in a good way. a funky, metallic flavor. dd was not a fan, but I liked it.
    • Achel - Brune - (Bruin Bier) - Trappist Ale - 8% ABV - excellent!
  • Saison Dupont - Belgium farmhouse ale - 6.5% ABV - enjoyed it outside in the evening while hanging out with neighbors on June 4. crisp and light. a perfect beer after working outside most of the afternoon and evening, building a fence around our garden and cleaning up the oak flower from the driveway and sidewalks. this beer was extremely well-carbonated, maintaining a thick head long after pouring.
    • "Brewed in the Saison style from Pilsner malt and Kent Goldings and Styrian Goldings hops. Unfiltered and bottle-conditioned."
  • Jun 28, 2014 - I tried the Rochefort 6, and this may be my favorite beer of all. It's tasty without being strong, alcohol-wise.
  • Jul 5, 2014 - DD and I shared a Chimay Red-label Trappist ale (ABV 7.0%). IT's an ATP. I liked this one a lot. We tried a new (for us) Authentic Trappist Product beer that we found at The Andersons Market in Sylvania. It's brewed by the Austrian monastery called Stift Engelszell. The beer that we drank was called Benno. This was also very good and similar in taste and color to the red label Chimay.
  • Jul 7, 2014 - DD and I shared a wonderful Trappist Westmalle Tripel.
  • Jul 21, 2014 - DD, CP, and I visited Swig and The Attic for Belgian beers. At Swig: Chimay Trippel, Framboise Lambic, Rochefort 8, Rochefort 10, and Duvel. At The Attic: La Trappe Dubbel (tap). DD and I love the La Trappe Dubbel. We need to visit The Attic while they have this brew. I still dislike lambics. The new ones for me included:
    • Chimay Trippel (tap) - I was underwhelmed. Too bland or plain. I like our homebrewed trippel much better. I prefer the Chimay Blue and Red labeled beers over this one.
    • Rochefort 8 (Belgian Strong Dark Ale) - good beer, but I like the Rochefort 6 and 10 better. The 10 still remains my all-time favorite beer. Same for DD.
    • Duvel (Belgian Strong Pale Ale) (tap) - Very good. Nice funk. This is not a Trappist brewery, but it's a Belgian brewery that began in the late 1800s. Of the three new ones, I liked this one the best. I'll try this one again.
  • Corsendonk Angus Triple Ale - very good.
  • St. Bernardus Abt 12 - excellent
  • Kasteel Tripel
