Organic Pest Control

Do you have any special recipes for getting rid of insects using organic sprays?

A good question. Pest management starts from the planning stage itself as it is advised to grow chrysanthemums and marigold to protect them from pests. Organic cultivation itself gives some resistance to pest attack. However there are organic sprays which individuals can formulate and sprayed on to plants to protect them from pest attacks, that is, by using a Neem/tobacco/onion–garlic-chilli concoction.

Vegetables Ideal for Container Growing

Salad leaves and lettuce.
Spring onions/scallions/green onions (take your pick on what you call them.)
Carrots.
Parsnips
Tomatoes, (although technically a fruit.)
Cucumbers, (also a fruit.)
Runner Beans.
French Beans.
Onions.
Radishes.
Shallots.
Herbs (all kinds.)
Peppers (chilli and bell peppers.)
American Land Cress.
Mangetout.
Asparagus.
Potatoes.
Courgettes/Zucchini.

Organic Container Growing

Every year I plant vegetables in 6 tubs and experiment with different organic methods.
The idea is to do this without buying any fertilizer or soil mix, only using what is on the land.

For mixes I use leaves, forest floor mulch (pretty much a rich compost), and old last-year's container mix which is basically fine compost.
Fertilizer is ashes and HLF (homemade or human liquid fertilizer).

Gotten some interesting results so far this year like:

Putting a stump in a tub, works really well for eggplants and
peppers do well in a mix of 1' compressed/stomped-on leaves topped off with a 6" compost layer.
