La Trappe Dubbel - Trappist Beer

... is a Dutch Trappist brewery founded in 1884 within the walls of the abbey Onze Lieve Vrouw van Koningshoeven in Berkel-Enschot (near Tilburg).

As of August 2014, this is probably one of my favorite beers. The Rochefort 6, which is another Trappist dubbel, is my other all-time favorite.

I like the bigger beers like the quads and trippels, but the dubbel is lower in alcohol, and it still has those raisin or plum flavors, along with the toasty caramel flavor.

Generally, dubbels have an ABV between 6 and 7.5 percent.

This summer, we enjoyed drinking La Trappe Dubbel on tap at The Attic in Uptown Toledo.

Marino's Beverage Depot, located on Monroe Street in Sylvania sells La Trappe Dubbel in a large bottle.

Some notes from the La Trappe Dubbel bottle:

Fermentation takes place using a type of yeast which is most active between 62 F and 68 F. This type of fermentation is called top fermentation.

Each of the La Trappe Ales bottles is conditioned for a full, complex flavour and long shelf life. La Trappe Ale can be aged like fine wine.

Bitterness: 24 IBU

Malts: Pale, caramel and munic malts.

Hops: Hallertauer Northern Brew and Slovenian Super Steirer.
