Amazing Bread from Zingerman's
On Sat, Feb 7, 2015, CP and I visited the Zingerman's business "complex" out by I-94. We loaded up.
I bought the big Z French Mountain bread, the Westwind bread, and the chestnut baguette listed below. I also bought a couple chewy pretzels. We bought sandwiches and a pastry and took them to their coffee shop. I had the French press pot Ethiopian coffee, and C, had the Roadhouse Joe brewed in a clever. Both were very tasty. We each bought a bag of beans for the coffees. Then we stopped in at the creamery. I bought their mozz and some cheese from WI. I also bought their pimento cheese spread, Koze peanut butter, heirloom eggs, and a couple landjegers [?] for Barney and I to share.
MI Chestnut BaguetteA Zingerman's exclusive! We were so inspired by Zingerman's Delicatessen's chef and partner Rodger Bowser's work to promote Michigan chestnuts and the abundance of chestnuts in Hungarian foods, that we created a chestnut bread. We've been testing this bread for months now, with rave reviews, from a recipe developed at BAKE! Great flour is one of the building blocks for great bread and here the flours are the stars. We're using chestnut flour from Michigan Chestnut Growers in Grand Haven, MI and wheat flour from Westwind Mill in Linden, MI. This naturally leavened baguette has a rich tan and purple colored crumb and a crust gorgeous enough to photograph. The flavor is full and you'll want to get busy looking for pairings of cheese, meats, spreads and wines. Have fun and enjoy!
