W.W. Knight Nature Preserve visit - October 2014

On Sun, Oct 19, 2014, DD and I visited the W.W. Knight Nature Preserve, located in or near Perrysburg, along the river road that connects Perrysburg to Rossford.

We visited the park from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

It was a sunny, breezy, cool but pleasant fall day with good leaf color.

Some short-distant migrating birds that we observed included: SCJU, GCKI, WTSP, and WIWR.

We also saw a few butterflies including one of the sulphurs and an American Painted Lady. I thought that I saw a Common Buckeye flying around in an open area, but it didn't land back on the gravel trail.

A small greenhouse that has walls made from plastic two-liter bottles.

Nasturtium grew in the small garden. This is an edible flower that provides a nice, mild, peppery flavor to salads. We maintained a potted plant of nasturtium in our backyard this summer.

I believe this was the American Painted Lady. I saw pink on the undersides. I think that's one of the field marks, which separates it from the Painted Lady.

The nature center offers many features.
