Trying to think about this after listening to a segment on public radio this afternoon. Obviously, it's tough to limit the list only to three. I guess that I base this upon the books that I have re-read most often.

  • In Our Time - short stories by Ernest Hemingway (the book that has traveled with me the most)
  • Sand County Almanac - non-fiction - essays by Aldo Leopold
  • Moveable Feast - by Ernest Hemingway

Honorable Mention:

  • Kingbird Highway - non-fiction by Kenn Kaufman
  • Reasons to Live - short stories by Amy Hempel
  • Sun Also Rises - by Ernest Hemingway
  • Lullaby - by Chuck Palahniuk

Bread books:

  • My Bread
  • The Bread Builders
  • Artisan Breads Everyday
  • Tartine

Food:

  • Zingerman's Guide to Good Eating

Design

  • The Design of Everyday Things
  • The Humane Interface

Programming

  • Writing Solid Code

Nature

  • Winter World

Plays

  • Pillowman by Martin McDonagh
  • Lieutenant of Inishmore by Martin McDonagh
  • Proof by David Auburn
  • American Buffalo by David Mamet
  • Deathtrap by Ira Levin
